Everything you need to know about BeamQR — how it works, what it supports, and how your privacy is protected.

General How It Works Files & Compatibility Devices & Browsers Privacy & Security Troubleshooting

BeamQR is a free, browser-based file transfer tool that lets you send files directly between two devices using a QR code connection. No cloud storage, no account, and no app installation required. Open BeamQR on both devices, scan the QR code, and your files transfer instantly.

Yes. BeamQR is completely free. There are no hidden fees, no subscription tiers, and no limits tied to your account — because there is no account at all. Just open the tool and use it.

Always free · No credit card

No account is needed. BeamQR is designed to work without any login or registration. This is intentional — the fewer barriers between you and your file transfer, the better.

BeamQR uses browser-based peer-to-peer (WebRTC) technology. When two devices scan each other's QR code, they establish a direct connection. Files move directly from one browser to the other without passing through any server.

No. Your files are never uploaded to or stored on BeamQR's servers. The transfer happens entirely between the two devices involved. Once you close the browser tab, the connection ends immediately and no data is retained.

Zero server storage

The peer-to-peer connection is terminated instantly when either device closes the browser tab. No files, connection data, or session history is kept after the session ends.

Not necessarily. BeamQR can work over the internet as well, though transfers on the same local network tend to be faster. The QR code connection works regardless of whether both devices share the same network.

BeamQR supports all file types — photos, videos, documents, PDFs, ZIP files, AI-generated images, RAW files, and more. There are no restrictions on file format.

Any type · Any format

BeamQR does not impose a file size limit. Transfer speed and success depend on your device's available memory and browser capabilities, but there is no arbitrary cap set by BeamQR.

You can send up to 10 files per session in the current version. This covers most everyday transfer needs.

No. Unlike messaging apps such as WhatsApp or Telegram, BeamQR does not compress or alter your files in any way. The file received is identical to the original — same resolution, same size, same quality.

Zero compression · Lossless

BeamQR works on any device with a modern web browser — smartphones, tablets, laptops, and desktop computers. It is compatible with iOS, Android, Windows, macOS, and Linux.

Yes. BeamQR works on iPhone using Safari or any other browser. No app download is required from the App Store.

Works in Safari · No App Store needed

BeamQR works on all modern browsers including Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge. For best performance, use an up-to-date version of Chrome or Safari.

No. BeamQR runs entirely in your browser. There is nothing to download or install on either device.

Yes. Because files transfer directly between devices without passing through a server, there is no central point where your data can be intercepted or stored. BeamQR is designed with a privacy-first approach.

No server copy · Session-only

No. BeamQR does not log, monitor, or track the content of your file transfers. We do not have access to what you send because the files never touch our servers.

Only the two devices involved in the transfer can access the files. The connection is peer-to-peer, meaning no third party — including BeamQR — has visibility into the transfer.

Make sure both devices are connected to the internet. Try refreshing the page on both devices to generate a new session ID and QR code. If the issue persists, try switching browsers or checking that your browser is up to date.

Transfer speed depends on your internet connection and the size of the files being sent. For large files like 4K videos, a strong Wi-Fi connection on both devices will significantly improve speed.

Make sure you do not close the browser tab on the sending device until the transfer is fully complete. Closing the tab ends the peer-to-peer connection immediately.

Yes. BeamQR works over the internet, so you can transfer files between devices in different locations or countries as long as both have an active internet connection.
