Step-by-step guide

How BeamQR works

Two free tools that run in your browser: a QR code generator that makes codes that never expire, and a QR file transfer that sends files between devices without the cloud.

Part 1

How the QR Code Generator works

Choose what the code should do, fill in the details, style it and download. Everything happens on your device, and the finished code never depends on BeamQR to keep working.

Making a QR code
🗂️

Choose a QR code type

Open the QR generator and pick a type: website link, WiFi, WhatsApp, social media, business card (vCard), event, email, SMS, phone call, location or plain text. Each type uses a standard format that phone cameras already understand.

11 types · No app needed to scan
✍️

Enter your details

Type the link, WiFi name and password, phone number or contact details. The preview updates instantly as you type, and the exact data inside the code is shown below it so you can double-check before downloading.

🎨

Design it: template, frame, shape, logo

Pick a ready-made template, or choose your own frame ("Scan me", menu, ring), outline shape, dot style, colours and sticker. Upload a square logo to place it in the centre. When a logo is added, BeamQR switches the code to the highest error-correction level so it still scans reliably.

Download and test

Wait for the green "Scan check passed" badge, then download a PNG (up to 3000px), SVG or PDF. Before printing, scan it with an iPhone and an Android phone, from the distance people will actually scan it.

What's actually inside a QR code?

A QR code is a grid of black and white squares (called modules) that stores text. The three large squares in the corners tell a phone camera where the code is and which way up it is. The rest of the pattern holds your data, plus extra backup data for error correction.

For each type, BeamQR writes your details in the standard format phones expect. A WiFi code stores your network name, password and security type in a format starting with WIFI:. A business card stores a vCard, the same format phones use to share contacts. A WhatsApp code stores a wa.me link that opens a chat with your number.

Static codes: why they never expire

The free generator makes static QR codes. Your information is stored directly in the pattern, so scanning reads it straight from the image. There's no BeamQR server between the scan and your content, which means nothing can be switched off later.

Many paid services make dynamic codes instead. These store a short link to the company's own server, which redirects to your page. That lets you edit the destination and count scans, but with most services, if the subscription ends, the redirect stops and every printed code stops working with it.

BeamQR Pro also makes dynamic codes, so you can change a menu after printing, host it without a website and add a WhatsApp order button. The difference: if you cancel, your codes keep working and keep opening their last destination. See Pro →

How error correction lets a logo fit

QR codes include backup data so they can still be read when part of the pattern is dirty, damaged or covered. There are four levels:

LevelData that can be lostUsed by BeamQR
L (Low)About 7%—
M (Medium)About 15%Codes without a logo
Q (Quartile)About 25%—
H (High)About 30%Codes with a logo

Higher levels make the pattern a little denser, which is why codes without a logo use level M: it keeps them simpler and easier to scan when printed small.

Privacy: your details stay on your device

The QR code is drawn by your own browser. The link, WiFi password, contact details and logo you enter are never uploaded to BeamQR, and we never see who scans your codes.

How QR File Transfer works

Send files between any two devices in under 30 seconds. No app, no account, no cloud: open two browsers, scan a QR code and your files arrive at full quality.

The process
📱

Open BeamQR on both devices

Go to beamqr.pro/file-tsfr/ in any browser on your phone and your desktop or laptop. No app to download, no account to create. If the browser is open, you're ready.

Works on iOS, Android, Windows, Mac, Linux
📷

Scan the QR code

One device shows a QR code automatically. Point the other device's camera at it. The two browsers set up a direct, encrypted peer-to-peer connection in seconds. Our server only introduces the two devices; your files are never uploaded or stored.

Encrypted · Session-only
📂

Select your files

Choose photos, videos, documents, RAW files, AI-generated images — anything. BeamQR sends up to 10 files per session at their original size. No compression, no format conversion, no quality reduction.

Any file type · Any size · No compression
✅

Download on the receiving device

The file appears on the receiving device instantly. Tap to download. The file you receive is byte-for-byte identical to the original — same resolution, same metadata, same everything.

Close the tab to end the session. Nothing is stored.

Why it's different

Built around one rule:
your files stay yours.

Every design decision in BeamQR comes from a single constraint: your files should never be uploaded or stored anywhere.

☁️

Zero cloud involvement

Files travel browser-to-browser using WebRTC. No upload step, no server copy, no storage quota. On strict networks a relay may pass the encrypted data along, but it can't read or keep it.

🎯

Lossless transfer

Unlike WhatsApp or Telegram, BeamQR never re-encodes or resizes your files. What you send is what arrives.

🔒

Session-only privacy

The connection exists only while both tabs are open. Close either tab and the session ends — permanently.

⚡

No setup, ever

No account, no app, no OAuth. Open a URL on two devices and you're ready. That's the entire setup process.
